Inspired Robot

I am a fan of classical music and play the violin (and some keyboard & guitar).  One of my hobbies is music composition, although should add I have not composed in years.  Click the links below to hear some of the pieces I’ve written/arranged over the years:

• Jesse Voogt, Gabriel Faure-Apres un Reve (Calefax).mp3
  This is a woodwind quintet arrangement of Gabriel Fauré‘s work for voice and piano, Après un Rêve, Op. 7.   It is arranged for Oboe, Bb Clarinet, Alto Sax, Bass Clarinet, and Bassoon, and is being performed here by Calefax. It was written while I was studying music at ArtEZ in Zwolle, the Netherlands. The effort I had put into the arrangement paid off since it got such an excellent performance in a nearby church by this wonderful group of musicians.

  This is a piece written for piano in the style of, I don’t know, one of Bach’s sons I suppose. Although it’s short, I’m very happy with it.

  This is a piece written for guitar, but here I have rendered it with a harp because it sounded better than the guitar midi.

  With my friend Graham Coleman on the vocals, this is a little silly song with guitar, violin, double bass, and some percussive instruments I did for school once. It was a lot of fun, please excuse the bad violin playing on my part…

  Inspired by Chopin’s Nocturnes, this piece was written for piano.

  A ballade for two pianos, sonata allegro form. Because it’s a bit too “heavy”, I had titled it “Unrequested Fission Surplus” at some point.

  A movement in F minor for String Quartet, trying to be Mendelssohn. It seems a bit choppy, like too many ideas in one package. Midi string quartets always sound so bad too…

  I wrote this little prelude one day for orchestra. It sounds rather silly in this midi rendition.

  A piece I wrote a long time ago, when I first thought I’d like to give composition a try.  I had originally set the midi instruments as flute and ocarina, but I don’t think the ocarina can hit those notes so I switched it to a bass clarinet.

  Another piece I wrote when I was just getting into composition. Trying my hand at a baroque fugue. Some stylistic problems definitely, but it was a nice experiment.
